The Arc of Tuscaloosa County

Imagine a scene straight out of the Wizard of Oz with hundreds of Tuscaloosa women bewitchingly dressed in their most creative witch costumes. Tuscaloosa will continue our whimsical Halloween tradition with our local W.I.T.C.H’s (Women In Total Control Here) “flying” through the streets of downtown to raise money for The Arc of Tuscaloosa County and the 300+ individuals it serves in our community.

The witches will fly on their decorative “broomcycles” through downtown Sunday, October 13, 2019 for the second annual T-Town Witches Ride. This year we will add a “Cat Walk” for our non-riding witches and their children.

The two mile bicycle ride and the one mile Cat Walk will begin and end at Government Plaza where we will celebrate with a Black Cat Block Party! There will be entertainment, kids zone, prizes and awards for our winners. Awards will be given out for the Best Dressed Witch, Best Broomcycle, Best Group Theme, and Best Dressed Child with prizes donated by local businesses.

Women 18 years of age and older are invited to participate and family and friends of all ages are encouraged to line the sidewalks to view the parade of witches flying through downtown.

Registration is $25 and participants are encouraged to pre-register online or may register in person at The Arc of Tuscaloosa County. Registration and packet pick-up will begin at 3:00 pm at Government Plaza and the ride will begin promptly at 5:00 pm on October 13th. There will be a Pre-Party sponsored by Moe’s Original BBQ and Heat Pizza. Tickets are $25 and include food, beer and wine.

The Arc of Tuscaloosa County, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are 21 years of age or older and reside in the Tuscaloosa Community. Services include day-habilitation, hourly services, pre-vocational training, and supported employment services.

Transportation is one of The Arc’s largest expenses and the biggest barrier to employment for the individuals served by The Arc. The Arc is transitioning from fifteen passenger buses to family-size mini-vans. Through your generosity, Arc participants will ride in nice vans, not an institutional bus with agency and phone number on the side. Transportation costs for The Arc are over $114,000 annually. This year we hope to purchase four new mini-vans. Our match amount for these four mini-vans is $30,800.
